Transition

PRESCHOOL/NURSERY TRANSITION

Borras Park Community Primary School has very well established transition arrangements for pupils from pre-school settings such as Playgroups, Private Nurseries and Early Education. Our partnership approach with parents includes visits to school and home visits prior to starting. Further visits to school are planned in regularly, and our commitment to the wellbeing of our pupils ensures that pupils settle in quickly and make a confident start to their school life.

INFANT/JUNIOR TRANSITION

There is very close liaison between the infant and junior departments.

During the summer term, prior to moving up to the junior site, Year 2 pupils make a number of visits for assemblies, play and a full morning with their appointed teacher for Year 3. The Year 2 and Year 3 teachers meet on a regular basis during the course of the summer term to discuss pupil needs and abilities.

A transition plan is developed to allow Year 2 pupils to commence a piece of work within Year 2 and then continue it on their arrival into Year 3. This allows the children to be working with something familiar in their new surroundings. During June/July parents of Year 2 pupils are invited to a meeting on the junior site to familiarise themselves with the building and meet their „new‟ class teachers. It is at this meeting that any parental worries are discussed, either openly during the meeting or privately at the end.

JUNIOR TO SECONDARY TRANSITION

Rhosnesni High School is the designated school for Borras Park Community Primary School and as a school we maintain close links with Rhosnesni High School. Children from Borras also transfer to other schools across Wrexham County Borough and beyond.

Early in the autumn term of Year 6 parents are notified of the online application date via the Council website where they can apply for a place for their child in the high school of their choice.

Although a designated feeder for Rhosnesni High School, liaison with all High Schools is strong, and Year 6 children normally make visits to see their new school and meet their future teachers before transferring there.
