Borras Park - William Aston Cup Winners 2017!

Congratulations to the school football team for winning the William Aston Cup following a thrilling Finals Day on Friday, 7th July at Brickfield Rangers FC.

In the semi-final we beat a talented Rhosymedre side 3-2 on penalties after our game finished 3-3 after extra time. The team deserve great credit as with just 3 minutes remaining in normal time we were 3-1 behind, but late goals from Lily Whitefoot and Joe Maddocks forced extra time. Following a goalless extra time period, the game went to a penalty shoot out with Henry Royce, Rylan Davies and Jack Gibson all successfully converting whilst goalkeeper James Lloyd made an excellent penalty save to win the tie.

In the final, we faced All Saints, Gresford who had beat Heulfan in their semi final. Two stunning goals from Jack Gibson helped us battle to a 2-1 win in an entertaining end to end game. When the final whistle sounded the delighted players celebrated winning the William Aston Cup and were presented with the trophy in the Brickfield clubhouse.

This is the 14th time Borras Park have won this trophy, which dates back to 1946. It makes us equal record cup winners alongside Acton Park.

Congratulations to all members of the squad for this fantastic success, we are all incredibly proud of you!
